The highest mountains are Snezka (1602m), Kucni hora (1555m), Studnicni hora (1554m) and Vysoke kolo (1509m). Cerna hora in Janske Lazne is 1299m high. Janske Lazne is a mountain town, recreational centre and the only important spa on the Czech side of the Giant Mountains. The healing springs were explored in the 14th century. In the 17th century, the founder of the spa was the owner of a manor, Jan A. Schwarzenberg. In the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, the town was going through a significant development. In its area, there is about 30 healing springs and a big amount of spa objects. Concerning architecture, a 19th century secession spa colonnade and pseudogothic church of St. John the Baptist (1885) are interesting. Cerna hora rises over the town and provides winter sports lovers with excellent conditions. There is a new cabin railway leading from the centre of the town to the top of Cerna hora.
